Hedgerow

Annual Exhibition (Food Museum, 2022–2023)

Exhibition Design Support, Spatial Planning, Object Research & Installation

About the project

Hedgerow was an exhibition curated by Our Isles — artists & curators Angus D. Birditt and Lilly Hedley. The show brought together a wide mix of artists, chefs, farmers, historians, and specialists to explore the ecological and cultural importance of hedgerows.

It was also the first major exhibition in the Food Museum’s newly renovated annual exhibition space, making it a central, high-profile project for the museum.

Considerations

  • Contributing to a strong “flagship” visitor experience for a brand-new gallery space, where layout, pacing, and finish needed to feel confident and resolved.

  • Supporting a multi-voice exhibition, ensuring objects, research, and interpretation worked together coherently.

  • Designing for clarity and flow, helping visitors navigate varied content without losing the core narrative.

  • Delivering practical installation outcomes, translating plans into a clean, well-resolved physical build.

Outcome

The result was a cohesive, research-led exhibition that successfully launched the museum’s newly renovated annual exhibition space. Through object research and selection, spatial design input, and hands-on installation support, the exhibition delivered a clear, engaging visitor journey and established the gallery as a key focal point within the Food Museum.
